“ What’s the difference between a lash serum and lash growth serum”?
Lash Serum vs Lash Growth Serum
A question I get asked all the time is:
“What’s the difference between a lash serum and a lash growth serum?”
The truth is, they are not always the same thing — even though many brands market them similarly. I always like to explain both so clients can decide what works best for their lifestyle, goals, and lash health.
Lash Serums
Think of a lash serum as daily skincare for your lashes.
These serums are typically designed to hydrate, condition, and nourish your natural lashes with ingredients like peptides, vitamins, oils, or plant extracts. The goal is healthier-looking lashes that feel softer, shinier, and stronger over time.
I like to compare lash serum to lotion for your skin. It helps support the lashes you already have by giving them moisture and nutrients. This can also help reduce brittleness from daily mascara use, lash curling, makeup removal, or dry climates (hello Colorado weather).
Many clients enjoy lash serums because they pair beautifully with lash lifts and tints while keeping lashes feeling healthy and flexible.
Lash Growth Serums
Lash growth serums are different because their intention is to stimulate lash growth.
These products are designed to help lashes appear longer, fuller, or darker over time. Some growth serums use prostaglandin analogs or other active ingredients that target the lash growth cycle directly.
While many people love their results, it’s important to know that some users may experience sensitivity, irritation, or side effects depending on the formula and their personal skin or eye sensitivity. Everyone’s body responds differently.
This is why I always recommend researching ingredients carefully and speaking with a medical professional if you have concerns, sensitivities, or eye conditions.
So Which One Is Better?
Honestly, it depends on your goals.
If you want healthier, conditioned lashes with added nourishment, a lash serum may be a beautiful option. If your goal is visible lash growth, a growth serum may align more with what you are looking for.
As a lash artist, my focus will always be helping clients maintain healthy natural lashes first. Strong, nourished lashes create the best foundation for lash lifts, tints, and overall lash health.
Please keep in mind I am not affiliated with these products — this is simply educational information and personal industry insight to help you better understand the difference between the two.
